Reference: Opening & Closing Procedures

Guides for Troubleshooting the Technology used in the library.
  • The librarian at the reference desk should consider him/herself in-charge of all public services functions while he/she is at the reference desk.

  • Reference librarians can and should use their judgment to call public safety (x6888) as needed, for assistance, at any time, including as back-up help during closing.

  • Tech tutors should work with librarians to ensure the opening & closing procedures are followed and complete. In the case of opening, if a tech tutor arrives before the librarian, s/he should begin the task list outlined here.

Policies for users

Librarians should use their judgment, reference skills and strong commitment to public service, to always assist users to the best of their abilities up until closing time, especially by referring users to other areas of the college (or elsewhere, such as public libraries) that can meet their needs after the library closes.
