Kiosk Troubleshooting | Restarting / Resolving Issues
Overview
The kiosks in the library’s vestibule will often become lagged /frozen or appear to have been overloaded by tabs and windows opened by our students. In other cases, the browser may be unable to connect to a website.
Step-by-Step Instructions | Resetting the Connection and Kiosk Terminal
- Trying to close any windows/applications that may be open in the work space.
- Press ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + ▲. This will exit the actually workspace on the terminal that the student was working in and allow us to access the interface for the actual terminal OS/ interface itself.
- In the lower left corner, click the button that contains the terminals Name. (It’s like a specialized start button that will present you with a menu.
- From the resulting menu, Choose “Restart the System”
Step-by-Step Instructions | Doing a "cold start" for a Frozen Kiosk Terminal
Sometimes a frozen Kiosk Terminal will require a "cold start" into reconnect and adjust to any new settings or changes that have been done server side.

- Press CTRL + SHIFT + ▲. This will exit the actually workspace on the terminal that the student was working in and allow us to access the interface for the actual terminal OS/ interface itself.
- In the lower left corner, click the button that contains the terminals Name. (It’s like a specialized start button that will present you with a menu.
- From the resulting menu, Choose “Shutdown the System”
- Power Up the system by using the power button on the corresponding CPU console mounted to the underside of the counter/shelf, by reaching through the padded access port on the enclosure.
