Online Library Resources & Services

To Renew (Extend) Your Loans, or Return Borrowed Items:

Return Borrowed Library Materials

There will be no overdue fines for any item checked out since March 2020, and all loans have been automatically renewed. (Any fines that existed before March 2020 will be handled on a case by case basis - please contact circ@hostos.cuny.edu if this applies to you). 

If you would like to return your item, as of Nov. 23, Hostos Library is accepting the return of books, DVDs, laptops and calculators borrowed from the Hostos Library by appointment only.  Sign-up for a timeslot - https://hostos.libcal.com/booking/access, in order to schedule a time to return your items.  Returns will be accepted (by appointment only) Monday – Thursday from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm.  You will receive a confirmation email/text when you schedule an appointment to return materials. 

  • Books & DVDs: You can place books and DVDs in the Library Drop Box located in the A-Building Lobby (475 Grand Concourse). 
  • Calculators & Laptops: To return calculators and laptops ask the Public Safety officer to contact the Library and a staff member will retrieve the item from you. 
Things to know:

  • Before coming to campus, download the Everbridge Daily Symptom Checker App.  You must complete the Everbridge Daily Symptom Checker prior to arriving at campus. 
  • You must wear a face covering over your nose and mouth.
  • Keep six (6) feet apart from others whenever possible.
  • Allied Health student or staff will take your temperature.
  • Making an appointment in this system only gives you a timeslot to return library materials. You will not have access to the library, nor any other part of campus, as a result of making this appointment to return library materials.

Circulating books (books from downstairs, not reserve books from upstairs):

  • Follow instructions listed above to arrange to return borrowed materials. 
  • All books will be automatically renewed as of March 18, 2020.  Late fines incurred for books due on or after March 12 will be waived.
  • CLICS request and recalls have been suspended until further notice.

Reserve textbooks (books from the Reserves Room upstairs):

If you usually access materials required for your course by borrowing from our Reserves Collection, please consult the information on this page.

DVDs:

  • Follow instructions listed above to arrange to return borrowed materials.
  • Fines incurred for DVDs on or after March 12 will be waived.
  • DVDs due on or after March 19th must be renewed.
  • Renew by logging into OneSearch (see instructions below).
  • You can also email circ@hostos.cuny.edu or call the Circulation Desk at 718-518-4222.  When calling please have your Hostos ID barcode number available, located on the back of your Hostos ID card.

Calculators:

  • Follow instructions listed above to arrange to return borrowed calculators or laptops.

Library Holds/Blocks

Students that have a library hold (service indicator), must email the library at circ@hostos.cuny.edu requesting the hold to be lifted.  The library will consider each request on a case by case basis, if the hold can be temporarily or permanently lifted. Please include the following information in the email communication:

  • Full name (As reflected in CUNYFirst)
  • 8 digit CUNY Empl ID#
  • Email Address
  • Contact Telephone #

If you want to check when your book is due, or want to renew it, just do this (please note that if someone else has requested your item, or if you've renewed already, you may not be able to renew again).
