Quick Links: Library Resources

If you're looking for library resources:

  • The Hostos Library subscribes to nearly 200 research and reference databases, which can be searched individually.
  • OneSearch allows you to search across all electronic databases, plus the HCC Library Catalog of physical books and media.

The Liaison Librarian for Your Discipline

A liaison librarian is assigned to each academic discipline. Your liaison can work with you to incorporate your input into collections, and to support your teaching and your students' acquisition of research skills.

Textbooks on Reserve

Reserve Collections

During the COVID-19 emergency, many Hostos students lost access to a lifeline—the Library’s Reserve Textbook Collection. When the Library is able to safely re-open, we will not be able to offer the short-term loans of reserve textbooks because of the time needed to quarantine between check-outs.

For Textbooks Currently in the Library's Reserve Collection:

The Library can scan selected chapters (required readings) from the physical textbooks in our reserve collection, so that faculty can provide these to students in Blackboard or via another password-protected platform.

Please note:

  • This offer pertains to textbooks that are already physically held in the Reserves collection.
  • We will not be ordering any new items or resources for faculty at this time.

Required textbook readings essentially means selected chapters from textbooks.  All requests will be considered by using copyright law and fair use principles.  Please understand that we will not copy entire textbooks as this is against the law.

  1. Faculty must submit a request form specifying their required readings.
  2. The Library will provide only one scanned copy of each "required" textbook reading to the faculty member teaching the course.
  3. The faculty member will then post the reading in Blackboard or via another online learning platform
  4. All enrolled students will now have access to required textbook readings by way of the online learning platform. We will not scan for students.

There have been some difficulties with the forms. There are now two different forms. If you have trouble with one, please use the other one.

We are short staffed at this time but will work to fully accommodate faculty requests. Requests received after the deadline of Monday, August 24th will be processed as they are received. Please send any inquiries to Mrs. Santa Ojeda, Reserves Manager at sojeda@hostos.cuny.edu.
