The Hostos Community College Library has two collections of DVD’s and videos that support the curriculum in all areas: the media collection and the leisure collection. DVD's from the Leisure Collection can be loaned to Hostos faculty, staff, and students for 7 days.
The Hostos Library Media Services Unit makes equipment and audio-visual materials available to Hostos faculty as well as to faculty and staff advisors of Hostos student organizations for instructional purposes. Nearly 3,000 requests are fulfilled per semester. Media Services Unit’s primary responsibility is to provide support for curricular initiatives and faculty in the classroom.
The Circulating/Leisure DVD collection was created to serve the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the Hostos community college community. It contains adult and juvenile feature titles from major and independent distributors. The collection consists of a varied selection of feature films including the latest Hollywood blockbusters, classics, foreign films (with an emphasis on Spanish-language films), documentaries, and other genres. A small number of children’s videos are also included. Videos for home use are restricted to individual or family viewing.
Although both collections are restricted to Hostos patrons only, the Hostos Community College Library does lend these items to faculty of City University of New York institutions in support of classroom and curricular initiatives. Hostos Community College Library invites CUNY faculty to borrow DVD and/or Video items solely for classroom use.
Requests will only be accepted from valid CUNY faculty members through their institution’s Interlibrary Loan unit. Authorization/granting of requests will be at the discretion of Hostos Community College Library staff.
The request must be made by email and directed to both Mr. Julio Figueroa, Head of Media Services, jfigueroa@hostos.cuny.edu and Professor Rhonda Johnson, Head of Access Services, rhjohnson@hostos.cuny.edu. The request must include the following:
The request must be made at least two weeks in advance of the showing date(s).
The lending period will depend on the number of classroom viewing dates and will include the material arrival date.
All requested materials will be delivered through the LAND system or the METRO system. The items will be sent in a special container case.
The item(s) must be returned within one week of the final showing date(s). They must be returned in the case in which they were delivered.
Hostos Community College library will hold the CUNY Library’s interlibrary loan unit responsible for all requested items until their return.
