Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

How to use Inter-library Loan system to request items not availability within the CUNY

Requesting Through Tipasa

What is Tipasa ?

Tipasa is the name of the cloud based software that Hostos Library uses to manage its interlibrary loan service. It allows each customer on the system to have their own "Tipasa" Interlibrary loan account.  Having your own account means you can track your requests both those in progress and those that have been completed.  You may also request renewals online by using your Tipasa account.

Step 1: Double Check OneSearch and Journal Search

Before requesting an item through ILL, have you checked to see if it's available in OneSearch, in Journal Search or in one of Hostos Library's online resources?  You might save yourself some valuable time.

Step 2: Log In to Tipasa

You will log in to your Tipasa account with your EMPL ID and the password you set up when you created the Tipasa account. Choose which type of resource you would like to request under the “New Request” menu:

  • Copy (Article, book chapter, conference proceedings, etc. - anything that can be scanned & emailed)
  • Loan (Book, CD, DVD, thesis, etc. - anything that can be mailed to us physically)

First time logging in? Go to this page for instructions.

Please report any ILL login issues to ILL@hostos.cuny.edu

Step 3: Place a Request

Please fill out the request form with as much information as possible. The more details you provide, the faster we can get the item for you!

A separate request must be submitted for each article or book needed.

Who can borrow?

Current students, faculty, and staff of Hostos may request materials through Interlibrary Loan. Alumni of Hostos, and students attending other institutions are not eligible to use Interlibrary Loan services at the Hostos Library, and they should contact their current institution or their local public library for interlibrary loan service.
