What came to shape urban life in the 20th century? This unit will pursue this question as you explore urban development in the U.S., Europe and the new liberated nations around the world in the post-colonial period. We will try to understand the vast destruction that wrecked European cities in WWII and study urban life as it has evolved in India, Africa, and Latin America. This last unit will give you the opportunity to work with your classmates to explore and compare urban life in your home countries and link your findings to what you have learned in this course about urban life, social and economical history and political systems.
